Short answer: Divide the garden centre into the retail hall, café, outdoor plant area and seasonal display. For each, decide whether it needs its own background stream, can share another zone or should stay silent. Then test what is actually audible at the doorways and site boundary.

Use a four-area decision sheet
| Area | Main task | Sound complication | Decision to record |
|---|---|---|---|
| Retail hall | Browsing and staff help | Tills, announcements and entrance spill | Approved background or silence |
| Café | Orders and conversation | Kitchen and retail spill | Separate zone or no music |
| Outdoor plant area | Browsing and loading | Weather, neighbours and open boundary | Separate current check |
| Seasonal display | Event or promotion | Temporary speakers and suppliers | Time-limited exception |
The current PPL PRS florist and garden-centre guidance asks about audible areas, devices, employees and operating details. Use the current guidance and the real site when seeking an answer. A floor plan is evidence for the conversation, not a licence, and this article is not legal advice.
Decide at the doorway
Stand where the retail hall meets the café and where the indoor area opens outside. If two zones are meant to be independent but both are audible, fix the plan. Do not solve overlap by making both louder.
Write an outdoor stop rule for closing, deliveries and seasonal events. Outdoor use can raise questions beyond the ordinary indoor plan, so keep it as its own row.
Where Sonosfera fits
Sonosfera provides independent streams by zone, venue-mood playlists, daypart scheduling and phone control of each zone's vibe and volume. Those controls can support approved indoor areas whose boundaries and operating owners are clear.
The catalogue terms license Sonosfera music at the locations on your active plan. Supplier music and live seasonal entertainment remain separate sources with their own rights checks. Use the multi-zone background music guide for the shared-versus-independent stream decision, then check current UK plans for the approved indoor zones.
Opening, busy-period and closing reset
Use the retail music guide for the main shop floor; keep the café and outdoor decisions on their own rows.
Opening: confirm approved sources, outdoor state and café handover.
Busy period: listen at tills, café counter and entrance; reduce or stop music where speech competes.
Closing: stop temporary and outdoor sources, remove supplier devices and return each indoor zone to its recorded state or silence.
Frequently asked questions
Should the café share the retail playlist?
Only if the shared plan fits both tasks and the licensing position. A separate café decision is often clearer even when the answer is to share.
Can I keep outdoor speakers in the ordinary plan?
Do not assume so. Record the outdoor audibility, hours and purpose and ask the relevant current questions for that use.
This applies to Sonosfera's own catalogue at the locations on your plan. No PPL PRS licence needed for Sonosfera music under an active plan. Music from other sources needs its own licence. See the catalogue terms for the locations and uses covered by your plan.
